Raymond W. Gallegos

November 3, 1944 – March 11, 2026

With heavy hearts, the family of Raymond W. Gallegos shares that he passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, at the age of 81, surrounded by those who loved him most.

Raymond was born on November 3, 1944, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Juan and Nicholasa Gallegos. He spent his early childhood in Barelas before moving with his family to the South Valley at the age of eight. He graduated from Rio Grande High School and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years.

On November 8, 1968, Raymond married the love of his life, Mitchelle Funes. This year, they would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. When asked what she would remember most about her husband, Mitchelle simply said, “the faith he taught me and all I learned from him.” Their life together was rooted in love, faith, and devotion to family.

Raymond had a deep passion for music and was a gifted musician throughout his life. Over the years, he shared his talent throughout the community—playing in the choir at the Church of the Ascension, performing at church fiestas throughout the city, retirement homes, and the New Mexico State Fair. He also blessed many families with his beautiful music during rosaries and funerals.

Music was more than a talent for Raymond—it was his way of bringing people together. He was well known for sharing his gift by teaching guitar and singing lessons to many students over the years, leaving a lasting impact on those who learned from him.

Above all, Raymond was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife Mitchelle; his loving children Joey (Lisa), Pamela (Adam), Genevieve, Leonard, Nicholas (Lisa), Bridget, and Raphael (Ariana); as well as many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son “Little Ray” Gallegos, as well as his four sisters and three brothers.

Raymond will be remembered for his deep Catholic faith, his love of music, his kindness, and the way he quietly shared his gifts with others. His family will forever hold close the memories of the love, wisdom, and faith he passed on to them.

His family finds comfort in knowing that the faith he lived and shared so deeply will continue to guide them, just as he guided them in life.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
