He was the sixth of nine children, growing up in a lively and loving household that shaped his generous and hardworking spirit.Ray attended Jefferson Elementary school and later Hamilton Jr. High School. It was during his time at Hamilton that he met the love of his life, Lisa, who was his sister Liz's friend. Their love story began in 1979 when Ray, wearing a leather jacket and driving his old black Monte Carlo, proudly showed off both his car and his handsome smile. Three years later, in July of 1982, they were married and began their life together, raising three children and sharing 43 years of marriage.Ray went on to Fremont High School and, as a teenager, developed a love for working on cars alongside his Dad. That passion for fixing and building things stayed with him throughout his life. His first job was at The Water's Edge in Alameda, where he worked as an orderly and maintenance worker. Over the years, he held several positions, including shipping clerk, autobody and fender technician, and later as a surgical materials technician at Stanford Hospital. Ray truly loved his time at Stanford, where he formed lifelong friendships and took pride in the important work he did.Ray was known for his willingness to help anyone in need. Whether it was moving, cleaning yards, repairing cars or appliances, hanging Christmas lights or painting, Ray was always the first to lend a hand. He had a unique sense of humor that could brighten any room. He loved gambling – especially lotto scratchers, where he was lucky more than most people - and enjoyed fishing.Above all, Ray treasured being a grandfather to Ray Ray and Roman. He loved hearing about their experiences and accomplishments and could not wait to proudly share their stories with anyone who would listen. Being their Papa brought him immeasurable joy.Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Elisa; their children, Sheila, Raymond and his wife Janee, and Samantha; his beloved grandsons, Ray Ray and Roman; his brothers, Mike, Dave, and John; his god daughters, Bella and Fina; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He is now reunited with his parents, Barbara and Frank, and his siblings, Frank JR., LeeAnn, Liz, BJ, and Sam - whom he missed dearly every single day since their passing.Ray's absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him. His humor, generosity, and unwavering love for his family will forever remain in our hearts.Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 South Central Avenue, Tracy is honored to serve the Velasquez Family.
