November 23, 1966— March 5, 2026
Mint Hill, NC
Raymond “Scott” Morgan, 59, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, at Novant Presbyterian Main after a courageous three-year battle with lung cancer.
He is survived by his three daughters, Megan Belk (Tyler), Mckenzie Morgan, and Lindsay Morgan, and his beloved granddaughter, Anne Stewart. He is also survived by his sister, Lisa Moore (Brian), his mother, Rebecca Pruett (Howell), his father, Ray Morgan (Barbara), a niece, a nephew, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins, including his cherished cousin Kimberly Poole, who was more like a twin sister than a cousin.
A graduate of Independence High School in 1986, Scott began his working life at Pine Lake Country Club before building a long career in the HVAC industry. He worked for Maye Heating and Air, Miller Contracting Services, and DAC Services in Charlotte, installing systems in numerous CVS stores across North and South Carolina. Certified in medical gas installation through Central Piedmont Community College, he was known for never turning away anyone in need. Even during chemotherapy, he would take calls from coworkers needing help with a diagnosis, often performing “side jobs” for relatives, friends, and strangers without sending a bill if they were struggling.
An avid outdoorsman, Scott loved camping, hiking, rock climbing, and paddling rivers throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. He was especially drawn to Three Sisters Swamp and was fondly remembered by paddling communities as a “River Legend.” His collection of rocks gathered on adventures became treasured gifts for family and friends. He was passionate about family history, spending countless hours exploring old church cemeteries in search of ancestors, and he enjoyed panning for gold in local creeks, leaving behind jars of sand and memories. A devoted single father for many years, he created lasting adventures for his daughters at beaches, Gold Hill, old forts, and battlefields, and delighted in making S’mores with his granddaughter Anne. He lived simply and humbly, loving his family fiercely, speaking plainly, and finding God most clearly in nature. In his own words, he loved rivers, mountains, and beaches, but most of all he loved his girls and the smiles on their faces.
