He was born April 1, 1935 the son of Melvin and Margaret Skelton. Ray met Shirley Rudy on South Bass Island (Put-in-Bay, Ohio) and they married in 1957. He graduated from General Motors Institute as a Mechanical Engineer and worked for General Motors Fisher Body, retiring from the Columbus facility.In his youth, he was the proud owner of the "Wreckless" sailboat. He sailed Lake Erie with friends that he kept for a lifetime. He loved hockey, bridge and golf. Ray was a well sought team member in each of those activities.He was always a thorough person, never quitting when he pursued a goal-whether it was improving his health, golf league spreadsheets or home improvement activities.A resident of Put-in-Bay and central Florida for his later years, Ray was an avid walker, taking a two mile walk in the morning and another in the afternoon throughout his retirement years. Whenever he greeted you on those walks at Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club or on the streets of Put-in-Bay, he would always smile and say "It is a beautiful day at the bay!"Surviving are his children: Cynthia (Kevin Becker) Skelton-Becker, Ty (Irma Garcia) Skelton, Patricia (Norm Phillibert) Skelton; grandchildren: Brittany Skelton, Zachary Skelton, Rachel LeClair, Zoe Becker and Albert Becker and their families; sisters: Barbara Lamanna (husband Reno Lamanna deceased), Merry Sherman (husband Richard Sherman deceased); nieces: Elizabeth Pinto, Maria Lamanna and their families and nephews James Rudy ad Stephen Rudy.Services will be conducted at Put-in-Bay, Ohio at a later date.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
