Raymond George Mayer, 94, of The Villages, Florida, passed away on March 3rd at Freedom Pointe Assisted Living. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ on October 13, 1931, and lived in Hillside, NJ before retiring to The Villages in 1996.
He leaves behind, to cherish his memory, his partner Donna Tittle, his brother Eugene Mayer of NJ, his four children, Sharon Rial of The Villages, FL, Kenneth (Lisa) of VT, Brian (Trish) of Lumberton, NJ, Sean (Suzanne) of Lafayette, NJ, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be truly missed.
Raymond was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Rose Mayer in 2017 and his brothers Louis, James, Henry, Paul and sisters Dorothy and Sr Clarita OP.
Raymond was a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the Korean War. He was honored with the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal,the National Defense Service Medal and the Ambassador For Peace Medal.
Raymond worked in the Engineering Department at Bristol Myers in Hillside, NJ for 35 years before his retirement. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus in both NJ and Fl. He spent many years seasonal camping at Hospitality Creek Campground in Williamstown, NJ with his family and friends before buying a summer cabin on Longwood Lake in Jefferson, NJ. He founded the Union County 50+ and 60+ Senior Softball Leagues in NJ from 1990 to 1994. He continued to play softball for many years in the Senior Leagues after retiring to The Villages, FL. Raymond was an avid jigsaw puzzler and Sudoku puzzle solver. He loved spending time with friends and family and was always there to lend a helping hand to friends, neighbors, and family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Wounded Warrior Project. Arrangements entrusted with BALDWIN BROTHERS Funeral & Cremation Society-Spanish Springs, 352-430-1449.
