Rae O. “Bill” Weimer II passed peacefully on March 5, 2026, at Fleet Landing in Atlantic Beach, Florida, and entered the presence of his Lord Jesus Christ and the Church Triumphant.
Born in New York City, Bill moved to Gainesville, Florida, at the age of five. He graduated from Gainesville High School and the University of Florida, later earning a Master of Divinity, a Master of Counseling, a Diploma from the Naval War College, and a Doctor of Ministry. Throughout his life he found deep joy in studying, researching, learning, writing, and teaching within Christian ministry.
He married Eathel Findley Bowie of Anderson, South Carolina, and was soon commissioned as a Naval Officer. As a Surface Warfare Officer, he and Eathel served in Europe and England. After leaving active duty, Bill attended Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts, where their two sons were born. He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister and pastored churches in North Augusta, South Carolina; Decatur, Georgia; and Oxford, Mississippi. He later returned to active duty as a Navy Chaplain, serving with Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard commands both overseas and in the United States. He retired from the Navy as a Captain after thirty years of service, then served as pastor of a special ecumenical congregation and chaplain to the Mariner Sands Community in Stuart, Florida. In 2014, Bill and Eathel moved to Fleet Landing in Atlantic Beach.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Meister Weimer; his father, Rae O. Weimer; and his stepmother, Wilma Parvin Weimer. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-eight years, Eathel; his sons, Hunter and his wife Carolyn, and their children Laith, Lance, and Lexi; Ryan and his wife Adrian, and their children Annabel and Briella; and his sister, Dr. Ann Moxley, and brother-in-law Jim Solar.
