Wooten, 90, of Hookerton, passed away peacefully at her home on March 13, 2026.A graveside service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Kinston on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM.Phyllis was born on January 24, 1936, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, to Roland and Iona Burrus Meiggs. She was a devoted master gardener who found great joy in tending to her yard and cultivating unique plants. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren and family, enjoyed traveling, eating healthy, and sharing her knowledge with all who would listen.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Wooten Jr.; her son, Ellis Scott Wooten; and her sister, Glenda Romig.Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Teena W. Foushee (Barry); her brother, Ellis Meiggs (Bonnie); her grandson, Vincent Wooten and his daughter Preslie; and her granddaughter, Katie Wooten.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC, in Greenville, at 1712 Union St, Greenville, NC 27834, or Gentiva Hospice Foundation at 115 Airport Rd, Kinston, NC 28501.
