Phyllis Tougaw ObituaryVisit the Triad Cremation & Funeral Service - Greensboro website to view the full obituary.Phyllis Tougaw peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 16, 2026, after facing dementia with quiet grace and endurance for several years. She was 81 years old.Born on August 27, 1944, in Carmi, Illinois, Phyllis was the beloved daughter of Phillip and Inez Dean. She grew up with a faith that would anchor her throughout her life, and she carried that foundation with her wherever she went.Phyllis built a meaningful career as a Medical Records Clerk at Oakview Nursing and Rehab in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, where she served faithfully until her retirement. The bonds she formed with her colleagues ran deep, and many of those workplace friendships became treasured lifelong connections. In 1973, Phyllis and her husband Frank made their home in the small town of Bone Gap, Illinois, and it became the place where her heart truly belonged. She embraced the community wholeheartedly, putting down roots that grew strong and lasting over the decades. She was a familiar and cherished presence at worship services in and around Bone Gap, where her faith was not just a part of her life - it was the heart of it.Phyllis found great joy in the simple pleasures. She loved spending time on the banks of the Big Wabash River fishing alongside Frank and their dear friends, Johny Bob and Suzanne Tougaw. She was also a devoted crocheter, and the warmth she stitched into her work was a reflection of the warmth she offered everyone around her.She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Inez Dean; her beloved husband, Frank Tougaw; and her two sisters, Dana and Barbara.Phyllis is survived by her son, Mark Stewart; daughter-in-law, Tina Stewart; grandson, Joel Stewart; and ex-husband, Glyn Stewart. She is also survived by the many friends and neighbors of Bone Gap who were blessed to know her.No formal services are planned at this time.
