Phillips Don Aley

Phillips Don Aley

Muskegon, MI

Don Aley, 84, of Muskegon, Michigan, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026. Born on March 2, 1942, to Ray Sr. and Lucille (Phillips) Aley in Muskegon, Don grew up with a spirit marked by grit and generosity. He graduated from Muskegon High School in 1961 and later earned an associate’s degree from Muskegon Community College. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, he served his country in the U.S. Navy, demonstrating the steady and dependable character that defined him throughout his life.

On September 22, 1962, Don married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Jacobs. Their 64-year marriage was filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. Together they owned and operated the Western Auto Store on Apple Avenue, creating a neighborhood gathering place known for friendly service and honest help. Don’s deep commitment to his community led him to serve as Muskegon Township Supervisor and Muskegon County Commissioner, always placing the needs of others first. He was an active member of the Lions Club, Vikings, and Elks Lodge, and could reliably be found lending a hand at community events, fundraisers, or in quiet acts of kindness, usually with Sharon by his side.

A devoted family man, Don cherished bringing loved ones together, especially during the lively Fourth of July reunions at the family cottage on the Muskegon River. Those days were filled with tubing, laughter, and memorable fireworks. In retirement, he and Sharon spent winters on Pine Island, Florida, and summers enjoying bike rides, camping, birdwatching, and watching sunsets.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Mark (Rhonda) Aley and Luci Aley; grandchildren, Colton (Courtney) Phiscator, Nikolas (Allysa) Aley, and Hanna (Nic) Murphy; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Sandra (Ed) Stehney, Tom (Issy) Aley, Jeff Aley, and Lurinda Aley (Scott Cavner); and his cat, Molly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Sr. and Lucille; his beloved bonus mom, Pat, who raised him from the age of four; and siblings Ray “Skip” Aley and Patsy Metzler.
