Phillip H. Harris, age 72, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on March 14, 2026. Born on February 7, 1954, at St. Anthony Hospital in Terre Haute, Phil was the son of William Gilbert Harris and Hilda Lorraine Melton. He graduated from Rosedale High School with the Class of 1973.
Phil was known for his remarkable mechanical and automotive skills, earning a reputation as a true “Jack-of-all-Trades” with a can-do attitude that endeared him to everyone. His lifelong passion for cars and racing brought him great joy, as did time spent with his family and his beloved Boston Terriers. He took quiet pride in tending his garden and yard, often pausing to watch the birds and squirrels that visited.
He spent many years in the automotive industry before becoming a valued Custodian and Maintenance Worker for the Vigo County School Corporation at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School. Phil is survived by his wife, Barbara Harris, with whom he had recently celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary on their shared birthday. He is also survived by his son, Phillip Elias Harris (Alesha), grandsons Phillip Wayne and Dominic Ray Harris, step-children Ryan Nolte (Cassie) of West Lafayette and Amanda Higgins (Brent) of Terre Haute, and his siblings: Antha E. Rickard, Victor G. Harris, Carla D. Frazier (Gregg), Darla G. Harris, Paula Jackson (Steve), and Marta L. Harris.
