Life Celebration for Philip Puthuchirakalayil Kuriakose
Philip Puthuchirakalayil Kuriakose, known affectionately to many as “Kunchayan,” was a man of profound faith, dedicated service, and unwavering devotion to his family. Born on May 29, 1959, in the village of Ranny, Kerala, India, he was the son of the late Kuriakose Puthuchira and Sosamma Kuriakose. His early years in Kerala established the foundation of humility and kindness that would define his character throughout his life.
Professional Career and Global Service
Philip’s professional journey was marked by a strong work ethic and a commitment to providing a stable future for his family. He spent many years working in the Middle East as a skilled electrician, contributing his expertise to various infrastructure projects. Upon returning to his native India, he transitioned to agriculture, finding purpose and fulfillment in farming and maintaining a deep connection to the land. His career reflected a lifelong dedication to honest, disciplined labor.
Community and Faith
A pillar of his community, Philip was deeply involved in church activities in Ranny. His faith served as his guiding light, and he was widely respected for his willingness to support parish initiatives and offer a helping hand to those in need. He was a man of steady spirit, known for his gentle presence and the integrity with which he conducted his life.
Personal Interests and Heritage
Philip found great joy in the simple, daily rhythms of life—his morning coffee and the daily newspaper were essential rituals that kept him grounded. He was a passionate follower of football and remained an avid observer of Indian politics. He particularly thrived during the vibrancy of election seasons in India, viewing the democratic process as a grand cultural spectacle that kept him tethered to his homeland. Despite living in the United States in his later years, he maintained daily contact with his extensive network of friends and family in India, ensuring that distance never diminished his relationships.
Family and Legacy
Philip’s greatest pride was his family. He was the devoted husband of Elizabeth Philip, with whom he built a life defined by mutual support and love. He was a proud father to his two sons, Rohith and Rahul, and a welcoming father-in-law to Princy Rohith. In his later years, he found immense happiness in his role as a grandfather to his first grandchild, Yohan, who was a constant source of light and pride.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, P. K. Thomas, and is survived by his sisters, Remani and Susamma, as well as a large extended family.
Final Journey
Following a courageous battle with illness, Philip passed away in the United States. In honor of his deep-rooted ties to his heritage, his final journey will lead him back to India. His ashes will be interred in the family cemetery in Ranny, where he will be laid to rest alongside his parents and brother. His legacy of warmth, generosity, and resilience will continue to inspire all who knew him.
