Philip “Dagwood” McClellan

Philip “Dagwood” McClellan, 88, of Folly Beach, South Carolina, died peacefully on March 10, 2026. Born on December 16, 1937, he was the son of the late Edward Palmer McClellan and Helen Creech McClellan.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in Civil Engineering, Philip built a life centered on steady work and quiet service to others. He worked as a residential home builder and later as a real estate broker. He was an avid reader who found great joy in walking the beach and collecting seashells. He took special pride in coaching youth sports and was a longtime member of the Optimist Club of James Island.

He is survived by his wife, Jean P. McClellan; three sons, Jay McClellan (Caroline), Andy McClellan (Tara), and Chris McClellan; three daughters, Debbie Ayers, Phyllis McClellan, and Tammy Walling (Chris); his sister, Angie Youngblood (Bill); his brother-in-law, Gary Price (Loretta); 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ida Fanning, and his eldest daughter, Cindy Cline.
