He was 83 years old.He was born on May 15, 1942, in Khammouane, Laos, to Mr. Thone and Mrs. Thene. He was one of seven children, with three brothers and three sisters, all of whom preceded him in death.In 1952, he began primary school. In 1959, he enlisted in the Royal Lao Army, beginning a life of service to his country. In 1967, he was assigned to the Special Guerrilla Unit (SGU) and was promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant.During his military career, he received additional training in the United States. In 1971, he attended an Administration course at Fort Lee in West Virginia. In 1975, he attended an English Instructor course at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. During this time, he was reunited with his family in San Antonio. Shortly afterward, he and his family moved to Dallas, Texas, where they began building their life in America, eventually settling in Euless for over 40 years.In 1979, he became a founding member of the Lao Buddhist Temple in Irving, Texas. The first temple of its kind in DFW. He remained committed to supporting the Laotian community, helping establish the Laotian Association and sponsoring multiple families as they began new lives in the United States.In 1996, his service in the Lao Army supporting United States forces during the Vietnam/Lao War and was formally recognized by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.Phengma Sayarath was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Champa Sayarath-Sanouvong; his four children, Ett Sayarath, Oott Sayarath, Bay Sayarath, and Bobby Sayarath; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.He will be remembered for his service, dedication to his community, and his love for his family.Abhidhamma Sutta services will be held daily at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the family residence, 505 Martha St., Euless, Texas 76040.Viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Forest Ridge Funeral Home, 8525 Mid Cities Boulevard, North Richland Hills, Texas 76182.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Ridge Funeral Home, 8525 Mid Cities Boulevard, North Richland Hills, Texas 76182.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
