Peter Piacente ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Molloy Funeral Home - West Hartford on Mar. 2, 2026.Peter Piacente, 88, of Portland, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children. The son of the late Antonio and Carmela Piacente from Italy, Peter grew up in Hartford, CT and graduated from Weaver High School. He met his beloved wife of 54 years, Diane (Sesko), at the Aetna where he worked until retirement. Peter and Diane raised their family in West Hartford, CT before moving to Portland in 2019. Peter was predeceased by his wife Diane and sister Christine. He is survived by his sister Linda Nuhn, his brother John Piacenti, his three children Lisa Thuot and partner Jeff Horan, Karen Piacente and husband David Ginand, Michael Piacente and his wife Jennifer, and his three grandsons Evan and Trevor Piacente and Zack Ginand as well as many nieces and nephews. Peter enjoyed family vacations in Cape Cod, Newport, Vermont, Virginia, Florida and visiting his brother in Old Saybrook with his sister. Peter and Diane liked to play bingo at Foxwoods. He loved spending time with his children, grandsons, family, and friends.As a teenager Peter worked at a tobacco farm and was an usher at the State Theater in Hartford where he met famous celebrities like Tony Bennett. Peter then served in the US Army, stationed in Germany. While overseas, he traveled to several European countries and visited his relatives in Italy. Peter was an avid bowler and golfer and a huge fan of UConn women's basketball. He enjoyed attending local college football games, Hartford Whalers games, and his grandsons' sporting events. He enjoyed volunteering for West Hartford Little League Baseball for many years where his greatest pride was coaching and winning the championship game with his son.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 6th at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 45 Freestone Ave, Portland, CT for family and friends, followed by a reception in Portland, CT. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warrior Project https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/. The Molloy Funeral Home, West Hartford is assisting the family with arrangements.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
