Peter John Cress

Peter John Cress

Saskatoon, SK

Peter John Cress passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, on his 83rd birthday, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 12, 1943, in Kitchener, Ontario, he spent most of his life in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where he built a life deeply rooted in family, friendship, and community.

Peter enjoyed a long and dedicated career with Scotiabank for nearly 30 years, marked by integrity and a genuine care for others. It was at the bank in Calgary where he met the love of his life, Shirley. Over the years he formed many lasting friendships at the various branches where he worked in Calgary, Picture Butte, Carrot River, Spiritwood, Tisdale, and Saskatoon.

He will be best remembered for his remarkable gift of making people feel cared for. Peter loved woodworking and took great pride in crafting beautiful pieces for family and friends. At Christmas he delighted in baking cookies and candy to give away, with his cinnamon buns, chocolate chip cookies, and jam jams becoming legendary among those fortunate enough to receive them. He was a wonderful husband, father, and very proud grandfather who cherished time with his grandchildren. He brought joy to their lives through playful traditions, from decorating bicycles for small-town parades when Sam and Brenda were young to playing games like “Dinos,” “doodly doo,” and the “beep game” with his grandchildren. His quick humour, love of laughter, and willingness to be silly brightened the days of everyone around him.

Peter’s greatest joy was his family, and he treasured simple pleasures such as rounds of golf with his friends Gerry, Mike, Eddie, and Jim, or meeting friends for coffee and easy companionship. He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Shirley, his children Sam and Brenda (Richard), and his beloved grandchildren Michael, Carley (David), Bailey (Jordan), and Sydney. He is also survived by his siblings Sue, Bob, Jim, Dave, and many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed and warmly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
