March 26, 1934— March 7, 2026
Framingham, MA
Peter E. Whiting, born March 26, 1934, died peacefully on March 7, 2026, of natural causes.
Born to Frederick William Whiting and Katharine Rich Whiting, Peter and his sister, Martha W. Davidson, grew up on Brook Street in Framingham. He married Jane Bryant in 1963. He is survived by his children, Sarah Whiting of Norfolk, Virginia, and Bill Whiting of Marlborough, Massachusetts.
Peter lived in Framingham his entire life, except for the years 1956 to 1958, when he served in the Army remediating training grounds in Texas. Self-taught and self-employed as an independent contractor, he could make or fix just about anything. He moved buildings, including houses and barns, dug ponds, and mitigated wetland areas. In 1987, he was granted a U.S. patent for his invention of a mobile brush cutter.
Peter collected antique trucks and tractors and pursued a variety of hands-on hobbies, including blacksmithing, farming, and woodworking. He trained a team of oxen and embodied the spirit of a true New Englander. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, sharing funny stories, and laughing at himself with an engaging sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
