Port Chester, NY
Peter A. Vita, 80, of Port Chester, New York, died on March 7, 2026. Born on August 15, 1945, in Port Chester to the late Antonio Vita and Antonietta (Fava) Vita, he was raised and educated in the community he would call home his entire life.
Pete worked for 35 years as an auto body painter at Fairway Auto Body in Mamaroneck. Following his retirement, he continued serving the Port Chester community as a crossing guard for the middle and high schools for 15 years, twice earning the honor of Crossing Guard of the Year. In his free time, he enjoyed tinkering with computers, playing golf, and tending to his beloved fish tanks. He took great pride in the patience and care required to create and maintain his beautiful aquatic environments, drawn always to the calm and beauty of the water.
Those who knew Pete will remember his warm smile and gentle spirit. A thoughtful, understanding, and compassionate man, he treated others with kindness and respect, leaving a lasting impression through his quiet warmth and sincere regard for those around him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Carol; his children, Toni (Leo), Anthony (Lucille), and Michael (Amy); his stepchildren, Renee (Dominick), Joseph, and Stephen; and many grandchildren, Maria, Victoria (Justin), Nicholas, Christina, Gianna, Olivia, Kylie, Jonah, Chyna, Tara, and Lee. He was blessed to know his great-grandchildren, Fabian, Santana, Greyson, Rowen, and Molly. Pete was predeceased by his brothers Orazio Vita, Anthony Vita, and Angelo Vita, and by his sister Nancy Cursiel. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
