Peggy Sue Hatfield
October 17, 1937— March 5, 2026
Kerrville, TX
Peggy "Sue" Hatfield, 88, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on March 5, 2026. Born in Winnfield, Louisiana, on October 17, 1937, she was the daughter of George Edwin Wallace and Cecil (Jordan) Wallace. Sue filled her life with creativity and found deep satisfaction in making things grow, making things beautiful, and caring for those who needed her.
She and her husband, Fred, spent 50 years in Houston, Texas, where they owned and operated Sue & Fred's Rock Shop. Sue designed jewelry for the shop, work that reflected the careful attention and artistry she brought to everything she did. In 2003, she and Fred moved to Kerrville, where she spent the last 23 years of her life. A lifelong artist, Sue won many awards for her paintings of nature scenes in oil and watercolor, as well as her wood sculptures of birds and wildlife. She was also an avid gardener whose knowledge and skill with plants consistently impressed everyone around her. Family and friends often turned to her for advice, and she was always generous in sharing what she knew.
Sue had a well-known soft spot for stray cats and took it upon herself to care for them over the years. Their company brought her much joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Cecile Wallace, and her brother, Tim Wallace. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Fred Hatfield of Kerrville; her brother, Ted Wallace of Houston; her sister, Edwina Wallace Wolf of Lago Vista; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and a wide circle of friends and neighbors whose lives she touched.
