Pedro Cespedes Sr. of Miami passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, surrounded by his wife Miryam and their three children. He is survived by his wife Miryam, his children Pedro Jr., Vivian, and Diana, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Born on June 29, 1941 in Camagüey, Cuba to Maria Antonia Rodriguez Medina and Francisco Cespedes Quintana, Pedro was raised there alongside his older siblings Delia, Adela, and Andres. He graduated from Escuela De Agrimensura in 1961 as a land surveyor and appraiser. From 1960 to 1965 he taught land surveying and operated his own business as a surveyor and draftsman, serving local farm owners and the Cuban Ministry of Public Health. In his youth he enjoyed mechanical and electrical work, woodworking, horseback riding, and swimming.

Pedro married Miryam Gonzalez Costo on August 31, 1963 in Camagüey, Cuba, beginning a loving marriage of 62 years. In 1965 the couple bravely left Cuba with their infant son Pedro Jr., living briefly with Pedro’s sister Delia in Cartagena, Colombia before joining his brother Andres and family in New York City. They settled in Jackson Heights, where Vivian and Diana were born, and Pedro worked in commercial refrigeration and later for the phone company. The family moved to Miami in 1979, purchasing their home in Winston Park, where Pedro and Miryam raised their children with pride and hosted lively family gatherings.

Pedro cherished his backyard orchid garden and the gazebo he built by hand. He looked forward to the Fourth of July and the family’s annual summer trips to Marco Island, where he loved the beach, boating, and sharing chocolate ice cream while watching fireworks. After retiring in 2016 he continued tinkering in his garage, making home repairs, inventing clever devices, and pursuing his passions for photography, travel, and history. He visited Grand Turk, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Spain, and Hawaii. Above all, Pedro treasured time with his family, creating memories as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be forever in their hearts.
