Paula Tripp

Passed March 13, 2026

Cromwell, CT

Paula Ward Tripp, of Cromwell, Connecticut, formerly of Glastonbury for over 50 years, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Hartford, Connecticut, to Raymond Ward, Sr. and Edith Buckman, Paula carried her love of family, creativity, and community throughout her life. A graduate of Chamberlayne College with a degree in Interior Design, she had an eye for beauty and a gift for creating warm, welcoming spaces. Paula and her beloved husband of 59 years, Peter, built a marriage full of friendship and laughter while establishing several cherished restaurants in Connecticut, including Blacksmith Tavern, Great American Café, and Stripers. Known for great food and loyal patrons, these establishments reflected the warmth and hospitality Paula helped foster. She also shared her design talents and vibrant personality through her work at United Paint, Close to Home, and Expressions.

Paula and Peter lived life fully, surrounded by friends, laughter, and memorable gatherings. Summers in Bonnet Shores and trips to Newport were cherished traditions, as was her daily devotion to the Hartford Courant’s Jumble. Deeply rooted in Glastonbury, she served as President of the Jaycees and was a member of the Gourmet Club. In recent years, she and Peter enjoyed their time at TPC in Cromwell, where she was an active member of the Book Club and Social Committee. Wherever she was, Paula created connection, friendship, and joy.

Above all, Paula adored her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Peter; her daughters, Jennifer Foster and her husband Jay, and Kimberly Tripp and her partner Jeff McKinney; her treasured grandchildren, Sydney, Abigail, Haley, and Alyssa and her husband Ben; her brother Raymond Ward, Jr. and his wife Janet; and her sister Kathleen Tummillo and her husband Robert. She was predeceased by her siblings Bruce Ward and Janet Ward. Her greatest joy was being “Nana,” and she took immense pride in her granddaughters. Her love, humor, and steady presence will live on in the traditions she created and the family she so beautifully shaped. The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by her devoted aide, Maria, in her final chapter.
