Somersworth, NH
Paul Vincent Callahan Sr., 87, of Somersworth, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at Bellamy Fields in Dover, New Hampshire.
Born on September 23, 1938, in Dover to Denis and Emma (Fortier) Callahan, Paul graduated from Dover High School in 1956 and served in the National Guard. He married the love of his life, Louise LaBranche, on September 7, 1959. The couple lived first in Dover before settling in Somersworth in 1964, where they raised their five children.
Paul worked selling cars for Emerson Chevrolet and Ed Byrnes before beginning a long career with the New Hampshire Liquor Commission, serving as assistant manager of the Portsmouth store and later as manager of the Somersworth location. A longtime member of Cocheco Country Club, he remained an avid golfer who played daily well into retirement. He will be remembered for his kind and humble nature and his infectious sense of humor. Paul cherished time with his family, particularly gatherings with siblings, nieces, and nephews at White Pond in Ossipee. He and Louise were longtime season ticket holders for UNH hockey games and took great joy in supporting grandsons Ian and Isaac throughout their hockey careers.
Predeceased by his parents, sons Scott and Peter, brother Dennis (Lucie) Callahan, and sisters Jacqueline (Louis) Placona and Natalie Callahan, Paul is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Louise; son Paul Callahan Jr. (Deana Slosser) of Farmington, New Hampshire; daughter Susan Leslie and her husband Brian of Dover, New Hampshire; daughter Amy Dumit of Montrose, Colorado; sister Joan (Normand) Richard of Rochester, New Hampshire; many nieces and nephews; grandchildren Cristy Walker, Ian and Isaac Leslie, and James Dumit; and great-grandchildren Aiden and Logan Tice.
