Paul L. Belben

1932 — 2026

Weymouth, MA

Paul L. Belben, age 94, passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 17, 1932, in Dorchester, Paul was raised with humble beginnings that instilled in him a strong work ethic and quiet determination. At eighteen he enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Korean War with the 2nd Infantry Division as a member of the Mortar Company and later as a mechanic. After his discharge he married the love of his life, Phyllis Belben (Hurley). Together they settled in Weymouth, Massachusetts, where they raised their four children and became deeply rooted in the community.

Paul worked for many years as a bus driver for the MBTA in Boston, often taking on extra shifts maintaining train cars and tracks. A true jack of all trades, he was the person family, friends, and neighbors turned to whenever something needed fixing, earning the affectionate title of “Mr. Fix-It.” He continued his commitment to service by joining the Navy Reserves. In his free time he found joy on the water and in the sky, sailing his sailboat and cherishing his Piper Cub airplane. An avid reader with a quick wit and natural humor, Paul could make anyone laugh and was a loyal friend who was always ready to lend a hand.

Above all, Paul was most proud of his family. He was a devoted husband, proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who built a life through dedication, resilience, and love. He leaves behind his children, Edward P. Belben and his wife, Joanne, of North Attleboro, Carol A. Newcomb of Weymouth, Nancy M. Belben of Weymouth, and Michael T. Belben of Brockton, three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was a proud member of American Legion Post 95 and its oldest living member at the time of his passing. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
