April 29, 1939— March 8, 2026
Beacon, NY
Paul Johnson, a longtime resident of Newburgh, New York, and more recently of Beacon, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at the Fishkill Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing at the age of 86. Born on April 29, 1939, in Seaford, St. Thomas, Jamaica, he was one of five children of Richard and Estella (Millwood) Lewis.
From a young age, Paul was known for his honesty and ambition, qualities that shaped him into a hardworking man. He immigrated to New York in 1964 and built a career in construction, where his skill with his hands earned him quiet respect. He maintained a small circle of friends and remained deeply devoted to his Jamaican family throughout his life.
Paul is survived by his last living sibling, his sister Mary Lewis Hamilton, and extended family. He stayed in close contact with Mary, who resides in Canada, and provided financial support to his youngest sister Lynn in Jamaica during her lifetime; she predeceased him. A private man of few words, Paul was remembered for his warm, welcoming smile and the distinctive gap in his teeth that marked a strong family trait. In the final decade of his life, he faced illness while residing at the Fishkill Center in Beacon.
His Canadian family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff and nurses at the Fishkill Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing for the respectful and dedicated care they provided him.
