Patrick E. "Pat" Smith

Patrick E. “Pat” Smith, 70, of Galesburg, passed away on March 12, 2026 at Labette Health Emergency Room.

Born on February 17, 1956 in Parsons to Herman J. and Gertrude V. (Callahan) Smith, Pat grew up in Galesburg and Cherryvale and graduated from Labette County High School. He worked as a traveling welder before beginning a long career at Tec Tank, A.O. Smith, and CST Storage. In addition, he was a dedicated farmer and cattle stockman. Above all, Pat was a loving father who cherished every moment spent with his family and grandchildren. He was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

He married Tonya L. Taylor on December 6, 1980 in Parsons. She preceded him in death on July 10, 1996.

Pat is survived by his sons, Jason “Smitty” Smith of Thayer and Ryan Smith of Galesburg; his grandchildren, Chelsea Smith, Waylon Smith, and Case Smith; his siblings, Bob Smith of Tulsa, Bill Smith of Cherryvale, Mike Smith of Cherryvale, Linda Essig (Tim) of Parsons, and Gary Smith of Cherryvale; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Melissa Smith and Mindy Smith, who passed away with their mother on July 10, 1996; his brothers, Jim Smith and Dan Smith; his sister, Shirley Smith; and Ryan’s fiancé, Shania Lewis.
