Patricia Alferes ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Sunset Hills Funeral Home, Crematorium and Cemetery on Mar. 17, 2026.We have lost the World's Greatest Party Hostess.Whether it was jazz musicians, singers, or just a house full of people gathering for the Super Bowl, New Year's, or Boxing Day, there was nothing she loved more than shining proudly as people laughed and ate and enjoyed the ease and comfort she'd created for them.Patricia Lorraine Alferes (previously Grandahl, née McKnight) passed away March 2, 2026, surrounded by love and reassurance from her family and the many friends that her grandkids call "Grandma's Squad." She entered her final sleep knowing fully how well she was loved. She was born in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada, January 2, 1933, to parents Hazel Frances Thompson and James McKnight, and had both a beloved sister, Francis Mae, and a brother, James Edgar, who was lost in infancy.Pat was working as a medical receptionist when she met John Grandahl and fell in love. They married and moved to Eugene, Oregon in a bit of a whirlwind. There they settled and remained married 31 years, raising two children together, Karla Ann and Martin James. She found another love later in life in John Alferes, and enjoyed another 22 happy years of marriage with him traveling, attending sporting events, and swearing at the television when her beloved Ducks or Dodgers were not quite playing to her standards. After losing Al, long distance kept her children from daily visits, yet she was never truly alone. All through her life, her quiet warmth drew even loose acquaintances into a circle of care. New friends and old, their unprompted help throughout showed how effortlessly Pat inspired love. She survives in the loving memories of everyone in her Squad, most especially her family in Canada, and in her immediate family: stepson Bob Alferes and his wife Carol, her son Martin and his partner Bette, her daughter Karla, and most deeply inside Karla's three children, Sebastian James, Streator James, and Savannah Grace.Win the Day!!To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
