Patricia J. “Patty” Wood, aged 71, passed away on March 9, 2026, surrounded by the people who loved her most. Born on May 28, 1954, in Saranac Lake, New York, Patty carried the spirit of the Adirondacks with her throughout her life. She moved to Rochester, New York, as a child with her mother and siblings, and it was there that she built her home, her friendships, and her career.
Patty is survived by her loving husband and soulmate, Robert E. Wood, U.S. Army. She leaves behind her children Brian Klingenberger, Tracey (Daniel) Saporito, Melissa Wood, and Cyndi Wood. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Ashley (Ben), Nicholas, Alyssa (Tyler), Aidan, Jordan, Darius, Marcus, Tatiana, Nasir, Joey, Olivia, Mya, and Cameron, and a great-grandmother to Theo Randall and Jayce Wood. She is also survived by her siblings Melinda Sawyer, Raymond W. Cybul (Kathy), and Colleen Cybul, along with a large extended family.
She was predeceased by her parents, Bernadette N. Cybul and Jerry “Ned” Sawyer, as well as her stepfather Raymond G. Cybul. Patty was also predeceased by her siblings Jerry E. Sawyer, Jr., Cynthia Sawyer, and Kathleen M. Cybul, who passed away just one week before her.
Patty retired from M&T Bank in 2015 after nearly 30 years at Chase Bank and many years of dedicated service at M&T. She lived with Multiple Sclerosis for nearly 40 years, facing every challenge with courage, determination, and an unwavering spirit. She volunteered for many years with the Chili Fire Department in Rochester, where her compassion and willingness to help left a lasting impression on her community. Patty had a deep love for travel and returned again and again to Las Vegas, a place that brought her special joy. She lived with resilience, humor, curiosity, and kindness, offering comfort and laughter to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
