Patricia Mims ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Davis Greenlawn Funeral Chapels and Cemeteries on Mar. 12, 2026.Patricia Annette Mims (Pam), age 80, passed away March 11, 2026, in Longview, Texas. Pam was born to Joseph Edgar and Inez Benson Mims on March 2, 1946, in Houston, Texas. (Texas Independence Day, as she liked to point out, and she was independent!) After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in Houston in 1964, Pam went on to attend The University of Texas at Austin. She graduated with a BS in English in 1968. She married Robert Earl Leonard June 6, 1968. In the 70's and 80's Pam was busy raising and spending time with her children.She volunteered at their school and enjoyed playing tennis with friends. She always enjoyed traveling and visiting family and even took her kids on a trip to Walt Disney World. Bravely starting the next chapter of her life, Pam went back to school and got her Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of Texas. She left Austin for a job as a librarian in Carrollton, Texas. She worked in various areas of the library and finished her career as a children's librarian, often doing story times and puppet shows. She retired after 20 years in 2014. Pam was passionate about books and reading. She was very musical and loved playing the piano and singing. For many years she sang in the church choir and played the piano in various public settings. She enjoyed the outdoors and was out walking most days. She could also be seen swimming laps at the public pool. She loved water and enjoyed taking her grandchildren to the pool. She had a heart for cats and was even known to feed and take in strays. She enjoyed playing cards and would play Bridge with her friends and Oh Heck with her family.Pam was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Inez Mims, sister Kathy Mims and brother Joe Mims.She is survived by her children Brian (Suzanne) Leonard and Janet (Mark) McMahon and her five grandchildren Ryan, Jenna, Kate, Brodie and Jack. She is also survived by her siblings (Nory), Paul (Kathy) Mims, Susie (Fred) Fairs, Don (Marty) Mims, Peter (Martha) Mims and Laurie Mims and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.The family would like to thank the staff at Hawkins Creek in Longview, Texas for their excellent care. Also, a huge thank you to Bespoke Hospice for their support and guidance and Pam's hospice nurse LB Jordan for providing much care and guidance in her final days.Visitation will be held Saturday March 21, 2026 at 1:30 pm followed by a service at 2 pm. It will be held at Davis Greenlawn Chapel (3900 BF Terry Blvd, Rosenberg, Texas). Graveside service will immediately follow. Celebration of Life will be held on April 4, 2026 at 4 pm at First United Methodist Church Hallsville, Texas.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to friendscarrolltonlibrary.org or Alzheimer's Association's.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
