Patricia A. Matheson

Patricia A. Matheson, 83, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Born on December 15, 1942, in Philippi, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Emmett Haddix Sr. and Eveline (Blake) Haddix. In 1958, she married the love of her life, Charles “Buzz” Matheson, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned nearly 68 years.

Together with Buzz, Patricia founded and co-owned Howland Alarm Co. in 1969, operating the business until their retirement in 1987 when it passed to family. She was also a licensed cosmetologist who worked for many years at Grants Salon while devoting herself to her home and family. An accomplished musician, she played upright bass with the family bluegrass band Family Pride from 1978 until 2020, earning the affectionate nickname “Thumper.” Patricia found joy in many pursuits: her cherished collection of elephants, years spent in a bowling league, gardening, and especially the special girls’ trips she shared with her daughters.

Above all, Patricia was known for her honesty, strong moral compass, and elegant presence. She balanced a rich life of hobbies and community involvement while raising three children with characteristic energy and love. She is survived by her husband, Charles “Buzz” Matheson; her son, Jesse (Barb) Matheson; her daughters, Charlotte (Jeff) Daugherty and Cindy Matheson (Mitch Meadors); grandchildren Nicole Loar, Samantha Kropp, Jake Daugherty, Jared Daugherty, and Mitchel Meadors-Matheson; great-grandchildren Bryce Moran, Jordyn Kropp, Evie Daugherty, Lainey Daugherty, Harlow Daugherty, and Harvey Daugherty; and her brother, Emmett Haddix Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Tommy Haddix and Linda Haddix.
