Orestis Adam Manis

Orestis Adam Manis

March 14, 1946 March 13, 2026

Portland, OR

Orestis Manis, 79, of Portland, passed away on March 13, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Athens, Greece on March 14, 1946, Orestis was the second of three children born to Adam and Eleni Manis. In 1972 he moved to New York City to join his brother. There, in 1977, he met Athanasia after her brother suggested she call him. They felt an immediate connection and married on February 24, 1978. The couple made their first home in New York City and welcomed their daughter, Glykeria.

Orestis was a proud member of Local 30 Operating Engineers in New York City. He and Athanasia worked together for a time at B. Altman & Co. in Manhattan before he began his long career at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where he was known for his punctuality and reliability. He loved life in New York, walking the city streets, attending shows with his daughter, cheering for the Mets, and enjoying good meals at restaurants. A capable cook, he especially enjoyed preparing a fine steak. He cherished summer family vacations at the beach and listening to traditional Greek Rebetiko music.

In 2024, Orestis and Sia moved to Oregon to be near their daughter. Though he missed New York, he quickly grew to love Oregon’s lush greenery and trees. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Eleni Manis, and his brother, Stelios Manis. He is survived by his loving wife, Sia; his daughter, Glykeria; son-in-law, Alexander; and his sister, Panayiota.
