St. Joseph, MO

Ora W. Schroff, 77, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. He was born on March 8, 1949, in St. Joseph to Wallace and Betty (Oyerly) Schroff. His family lived briefly in Wichita, Kansas, during his early childhood before returning to St. Joseph, where he graduated from Lafayette High School.

Shortly after graduation, Ora enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. His military career extended from July 1969 to July 1981. Upon returning to civilian life, he began a long career as a maintenance mechanic, working first at Midwest Hanger Company in Cameron, Missouri, then for many years at Monfort, followed by American Walnut, and concluding his professional life at Triumph Foods.

Ora shared many years with his longtime companion, Maxine Faye Power, who preceded him in death on September 28, 1991. He found great joy in fishing and camping, particularly at Rochester Falls, and enjoyed relaxing with a good Western or movie on television. Determined and straightforward, Ora possessed a deep love and loyalty for his family that was felt by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond Schroff and Louis Schroff; his sister-in-law, Brenda Schroff; and his nephew, Charles Schroff. Survivors include Maxine’s children, Tonya McKinney, Arlo Power, and Mickey Power-Sigmon; his brother, Todd Schroff (Gloria); several nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.
