Ophelia Davis

1939 — 2026

Syvana Ophelia Bass Davis was born on October 9, 1939, in the Highland Community near Edgewood, Texas, to Lomie and Lois Marie Bridwell Bass. A lifelong resident of Van Zandt County, she was a devoted Christian and longtime member of Corinth Baptist Church. Ophelia spent her life working alongside her husband, raising and cherishing her children, and maintaining employment outside the home. She found great joy in her church family, singing, and spending time outdoors appreciating God’s creation.

She married Jesse Lee Davis on August 24, 1956, at the age of sixteen, after attending Canton ISD. Together they raised five children: Julie Marie Davis Arnold, Leslie Ann Davis Grier, Sharon Lee Davis Bush, William Dee Davis, and Jason Clay Davis. Ophelia passed away at the age of 86 on March 12, 2026, at her home following a brief illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lomie and Lois Bass; her husband of nearly fifty years, Jesse Lee Davis; her grandson, Morgan Ray Davis; her brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Ona DiSalvo; her brother and sister-in-law, Harp and Hazel Davis; her sisters-in-law, Inis Strafford, Cindy Davis, and Jean Bass; and her son-in-law, Doc Arnold.

Ophelia is survived by her brother, Lamar Bass; her five children, Julie Arnold, Leslie and Ronny Grier, Sharon Bush, W. Dee and Jessica Davis, and Clay and Windy Davis; her brother-in-law, Leroy Stafford; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She will be laid to rest beside her husband and other family members at Corinth Cemetery near Grand Saline.
