Opal Lee Waide, 102, of Carterville, Illinois, formerly of Providence, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Parkway Manor in Marion, Illinois.

Born on January 28, 1924, in New Market, Alabama, Opal was the daughter of the late Isom Clevenger and Mary Sharp Clevenger, who died from complications of childbirth. She was raised by her stepmother, Lillian Clevenger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Waide, on October 27, 2016, her sisters Edna Earl Hook, Virginia Daire Capps, and JoAnne Clevenger, and her brothers L.J. “Chicken” Clevenger and Wilburn “Doughboy” Clevenger.

A lifetime member of the VFW Post #308 Ladies Auxiliary in Marion, Opal found joy in playing bingo, raising her children, and spoiling her grandchildren. She lived a long and full life centered on family and quiet devotion to those she loved.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Waide of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; her sons, Birdie “Minty” (Minty) Waide of Marion, Illinois, Roy (Jeanie) Waide of Energy, Illinois, Johnny (Angie) Waide of Herrin, Illinois, and Rick (Leslie) Waide of Murray, Kentucky; her sisters, Betty Katheryn (Arlie) Stinnett and Giovannina Phillips, both of Providence, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, thirty-five great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild.
