Opal Chisholm

Opal Chisholm, of DeFuniak Springs, passed away on March 9, 2026, surrounded by her family. Born in Destin on September 4, 1933, she was the third child and only daughter of Edward and Alice Wells. After attending elementary school in Destin and high school in Fort Walton, she built a long career in civil service, eventually serving as a secretary in a product directorate at Eglin Air Force Base.

While dedicated to her work, Opal found her deepest joy in the adventures she shared with her husband and two children during their years in Alaska. In later life, she continued to cherish quilting and clamming in Alaska alongside her husband until his passing in 2018. She took special pride in her eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who now live across Florida and Texas.

She is survived by two of her children and all of her grandchildren, who will miss her tremendously.
