Norman Wynn

July 22, 1928 March 6, 2026

Blackstone, VA

Deacon Norman Wynn was born on July 22, 1928, in Lunenburg County, Virginia, to the late Reverend Richard B. Wynn and Irene Crawley Wynn. The last surviving sibling of fourteen children, he passed away peacefully at his home on March 6, 2026.

Norman attended the Pleasant Oak B.C. School and Lunenburg High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in carpentry from Virginia State University in Petersburg. He also completed the Evan Smith Certificate Program in affiliation with Virginia Union University School of Theology. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the Korean War and received an honorable discharge.

He married the love of his life, Katherine Hurt, on May 27, 1956. Their nearly seventy-year union was blessed with two children, Clinton and Connie. Norman worked on his father’s farm, held various construction jobs in Maryland, and later worked at Leas Industries in Virginia until his retirement. Deeply devoted to his faith, he accepted the Lord at an early age and remained a faithful member of Pleasant Oak Baptist Church for most of his life. He also worshipped at Union Baptist Church in Sparrow Point, Maryland, where he sang in the male choir. Upon returning to Virginia, he served Pleasant Oak Baptist Church as a trustee, deacon, and chairman of the deacon board. During a period without a pastor, he helped keep the church strong for three years until a new pastor was installed. He also served as treasurer of the Pastor’s Aide Society and as a member of the male chorus, offering dedicated service until his health declined.

Norman took great joy in gardening, farming, cooking, and building. He constructed his own home in Virginia and used his carpentry skills to help many others build theirs.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Katherine Wynn; his children, Clinton (Mary) Wynn and Connie (Eddie) Wynn; five grandchildren, Bettina, Katherine (Billy), Carl Henry, Brandon, and Brittany (Stephen); three great-grandchildren, Amavi, Nubia, and Savannah; three sisters-in-law, Frances Wynn, Edith Harris, and Margarett Williams (Stanley); one brother-in-law, Robert Wilson; Louise Jones and family; and a host of nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives.
