Norman R. Littlehale

1930 — 2026

Wilsons Mills, ME

Norman R. Littlehale, 95, of Wilsons Mills, Maine, passed away peacefully after a long and well-lived life. Born on August 20, 1930, in Lewiston, Maine, Norman spent most of his life in the close-knit community of Wilsons Mills. He graduated from Livermore High School with the class of 1949 and shared 70 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Muriel Littlehale, until her passing in 2023. Together they built a life grounded in hard work, family, and a deep appreciation for the North Woods they called home.

Norman dedicated 40 years of service to the Maine Department of Transportation. In 1976, he and Muriel established and operated the Aziscoos Valley Campground for the next 40 years, welcoming visitors from near and far to experience the natural beauty of the region they cherished. A true woodsman, he was an avid trapper who spent many seasons in the outdoors with his longtime friend, Elmer Millett. He also enjoyed farming, raising sheep, caring for the land he loved, and making maple syrup each spring. A skilled carpenter, Norman constructed numerous buildings throughout the community, and he and Muriel shared a love of travel that took them beyond their corner of Maine.

Deeply devoted to Wilsons Mills, Norman served on the town’s Board of Selectmen and played a leading role in organizing the town’s Sesquicentennial celebration in 1975. He will be remembered for his remarkable gift for storytelling, often captivating listeners with tales of the woods, the town, and the people who shaped its history, including his favorite recollection of waiting patiently for President Dwight D. Eisenhower to pass through town.

Norman is survived by his daughters, Angela Bennett and her husband, Warren, and Emily Staley; his grandson, Nicholas Staley and his wife, Melanie; and his three great-grandchildren, Owen, Austin, and Lila. He is also survived by his niece, Loretta Littlehale, and former son-in-law, Frank Staley. He was predeceased by his wife, Muriel Littlehale; his parents, Lester Littlehale Sr. and Grace Gardner; his stepmother, Gwendolyn Littlehale; and his brother, Lester Littlehale Jr.
