Norman Elliott Carr
Aiken, SC — A Funeral Liturgy for Mr. Norman Elliott Carr, age 81, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Old St. Mary Help of Christians Church 203 Park Ave SE, with Deacon Alejandro officiating. Visitation will follow in Smith Hall.
Mr. Carr entered into rest on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Anchor Post Acute. He was the beloved husband of 50 years to the late Mrs. Elaine Vincent Carr, and the cherished son of the late Mr. Newman Carr and the late Mrs. Dorothy Mann.
Born in Cumberland, RI, Mr. Carr made the Aiken area his home beginning in 1981. He worked in the maintenance department at SRS for 30 years and also held a second job as a driver for Papa John’s Pizza. He was a devoted member of St. Mary Help of Christians Church, where he coached his daughter’s basketball team for St. Mary’s School. He was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Carr had a lifelong passion for sports. In addition to coaching basketball, he coached recreational baseball in Aiken for the Cubs and the Athletics, proudly coaching his son and grandsons. He enjoyed bowling and softball, playing on his work team at SRS. He was an enthusiastic follower of many sports programs, including the New England Patriots, Notre Dame and Clemson football, the Boston Red Sox, and the UCONN Huskies women’s basketball team.
Outside of athletics, he loved crossword puzzles, reading sports biographies, and traveling throughout the United States. He also adored his cat, Roxy. Mr. Carr was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be profoundly missed.
Survivors include his son, Layton Carr of Speedwell, TN; his daughter, Crystal Carr of Aiken, SC; his brother, Paul Carr, and his sister, Dottie Whitford, both of Cumberland, RI; and three grandchildren: Austin Cowell, Brandon Cowell, and Shianne Twitty, all of Aiken, SC. He was additionally preceded in death by his brothers Charlie Carr and his twin, Newman Carr.
