September 27, 1948— March 4, 2026
Indianola, IA
Norman Deloss Crawford was born on September 27, 1948, in Chariton, Iowa, the son of Deloss and Alberta (Birchard) Crawford. He passed away on March 4, 2026, at home at the age of 77. The family lived on a small farm until the passing of his grandmother in 1955, after which they moved in with his grandfather and remained there until his death in 1962.
Norman graduated from Chariton High School in 1966 and earned a degree in chemical engineering from Iowa State University in 1971. He worked at Dow Chemical before taking on a variety of jobs, including ranch hand in Montana. He later moved to Washington, where he met and married Sheri Ann Johnson on July 12, 1980. Together they built a log cabin home, and Norman worked at Tacoma Public Utilities in the electronics warehouse until his retirement in 2012. Following his divorce, he returned to Indianola, Iowa, where he lived for the remainder of his life. He was a faithful member of the Assembly of God church in Norwood, where he regularly taught Sunday school.
Norm found his greatest peace on the farm, surrounded by the simple rhythms of country life. He cherished the sounds of the chickens, the lively energy of the piglets, and the devoted companionship of his miniature dachshund, Punkin. An avid traveler, he visited China, Russia, Turkey, the Philippines, and Thailand, where he particularly enjoyed elephant camps, fishing excursions, and spending time with the children at the orphanage.
Preceded in death by his parents, Norman will be remembered as a kind and caring man who readily helped those in need. He is survived by many cousins and countless friends.
