Norman Albert Hults, aged 83, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, at his home in Windsor, Virginia. Born on June 24, 1942, in New York, he lived a life defined by quiet dedication, service to his country, and deep commitment to his community.
A proud United States Navy veteran who served in the Vietnam War, Norman continued his service long after his retirement. He served as Vice President of the Horton Wreath Society and remained a steadfast supporter of the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. He volunteered at Chippokes Plantation State Park, worked as a guide and parking coordinator for cruise ships at Nauticus, and was a generous supporter of Windsor Elementary School, always believing in the importance of investing in young lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Dorothy Hults; his wife, Thelma Ruth Hults; his brother, Arthur Hults; and his sisters, Marilyn Griffith, Cynthia Zabel, and Jacqueline Lombardo. Norman is survived by his daughter, Samantha VanHorn and her husband, William, of Windsor, Virginia; his son, James Phelps and his wife, Deanne, of Chesapeake, Virginia; his brother, Peter Hults and wife, Pam; his sisters, Linda Francis and husband, Raymond, and Sandra Murphy; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Norman will be remembered for his unwavering sense of duty, his kindness, and the steady love he showed his family. His legacy of service and quiet generosity will live on through all those who knew and loved him.
