Pirro Jr. Funeral Home on Mar. 17, 2026.Norma Rosaria Yennock, age 104 (and 7 months), of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving nieces and nephews.She is survived by her sister, Marguerite Cesta of Hollywood, Florida.She was predeceased by her parents, Sam and Ermelinda Yennock, and her siblings: Armand Yennock, John Yennock, Reverend Monsignor Eugene Yennock, Hilda Scaravillo, Sister Margaret Yennock, and Albert Yennock.Norma was a graduate of North High School. Following graduation, she worked in the family business, Market Paper Comany, and later at E.W. Edwards in fashion and advertising. At the age of 35, she enrolled at Catholic University. She later earned her master's degree in education. This led to a meaningful and diverse career as a social worker in New York City, a teacher in Florida, and later a teacher in the Fayetteville-Manlius School District for several years.In 1972, Norma took a sabbatical and embarked on a solo journey around the world-an experience that reflected her independence, courage, and deep curiosity about people and cultures. Travel remained a lifelong passion; beginning at age 17, she started a cherished tradition of visiting York Beach, Maine, returning every year with her family until the age of 104.Norma was an avid reader and passionate historian with a deep appreciation for learning and storytelling. She had a special love for theater and poetry, reflecting her creativity and appreciation for the arts. She was also an accomplished artist who entered her first art show at age 91 and showcased her work on several other occasions.Her Catholic faith was an integral part of her daily life. She was a proud member of the Daughters of Columbus and generously opened her home to missionaries, sisters, and students from around the world. She had a remarkable gift for connecting with others and was always interested in everyone's story.Norma had a deep love for her Italian heritage, which she passed down to her 11 nieces and nephews, 23 great-nieces and nephews, and 18 great-great-nieces and nephews. Aunt Norma was an irreplaceable and cherished presence in all of their lives.Sometimes 104 years just isn't enough.A calling hour will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 8:45 A.M. – 9:45 A.M. in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter's Church, 301 Ash Street Syracuse, NY, followed by a funeral Mass in celebration of Norma's life at 10:00 A.M. in the church. She will be laid to rest in Assumption Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Norma's memory to Rev. Msgr. Eugene M.
