Norma Jean Sander, 93, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away on March 10, 2026, at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. Born on August 6, 1932, in Ellis, Kansas, to Florian and Clara (Rohleder) Engel, she married Wilmer “Wimpy” Sander on February 12, 1952. He preceded her in death on August 19, 2012.

A longtime resident of Great Bend, Norma Jean worked at Mr. D’s IGA and as a cashier at Dillons Store #51. She was a devoted member of Prince of Peace Parish, the Altar Society, and the Daughters of Isabella. Above all, she was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her family.

She is survived by her son, Keith Sander and wife Shirley of Turpin, Oklahoma; daughters Kathy Levingston and partner Marvin Ward of Great Bend, Karen Lofland of Great Bend, and Kimberly Donovan of Hoisington; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; her sister, Elgerine Gross of Hays; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Norma Jean was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers—Clayton, Darrell, and Verlin Engel—two sisters, Imelda Karlin and Phyllis Stuart, and son-in-law James Lofland.
