August 25, 1929— March 13, 2026
Bowling Green, KY
Norma Henry Luke was born on August 25, 1929, in Greensburg, Indiana, to John Hass and Deloris Taylor. The family soon moved to Madison, Indiana, where she grew up with three sisters and a younger brother. Her working life began in high school at Ingles Rogers Drug Store, where she served as stock help, clerk, and occasional lunch counter attendant. There, a persistent patron named William Henry won her heart, and they married in 1946. Together they had three children: Robert in 1950, Margaret in 1953, and Gregory in 1954. The marriage ended in divorce in 1965.
For many years Norma worked two jobs to support her children. After they left home, she transferred with Indiana Bell Engineering to Plymouth, Indiana, where a co-worker introduced her to her brother, Truman Luke. They married in July 1973 and shared 32 years together until his death in 2005. Norma was crowned Mrs. Senior Kentucky in 1995. In 2001 she returned to Western Kentucky University, earning an Associate Degree in Humanities and a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science. In 2003 she received the Jefferson Award for outstanding community service. Through her many contributions, she touched hundreds of lives.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Henry, her husband Truman Luke, her daughters Margaret and Gregory, and all but one of her siblings, Norma passed quietly in her sleep on March 13, 2026. She is survived by her eldest son Robert, seven grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a large family of great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of dedication, service, and a long and fruitful life.
