Norma Garmon ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Leak & Sons Funeral Homes - Country Club Hills on Mar. 8, 2026.Norma Jean GarmonObituary: "Well done, good and faithful servant." - Matthew 25:2 Norma Jean Garmon, daughter of the late Mildred Lambert McDaniel Arnold and Edward McDaniel, was born on April 19, 1940, in Plummerville, Arkansas. She professed Christ at an early age and was baptized. She was preceded in death by her three sisters and by her beloved and devoted best friend, Sis Olerya Milton. On December 30, 1958, Norma married Adolphus Garmon, Sr., in Kansas City, Missouri, in the home of Cleandrew ("Jimbo") Davis and Alice Knox Davis. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and love. Four children were born to this union: Adolphus Garmon Jr. (Maine), Garland J. Garmon (Arizona), Sandra Kay Garmon Haase (Wayne) (Tennessee), and Sharon Darno (Ohio). Her husband, Adolphus Garmon, Sr., preceded her in death. Norma was a devoted Christian whose faith guided her life. With every military move alongside her late husband, she would quickly become active in the local church community-serving faithfully as a Sunday School teacher, working with the Usher Board, and later serving as a Deaconess. In later years, she was a faithful and active member of New Mount Olive Baptist Church in Harvey, Illinois, where she loved and supported her church family and her pastor, Reverend Lewis. Norma often shared her faith in our Lord and Savior with others, and her life reflected a deep commitment to God, her family, and her church. Norma carried a quiet strength and deep pride in a role she often used to describe herself: a military wife and mother. She faithfully supported her husband through more than 30 years of military service, including the sacrifices and separations that come with deployments. That legacy of service continued through their family-all four of her children served in the U.S. Army, reflecting the values of duty, resilience, and perseverance she helped instill. After high school, Norma continued building a life of skill, creativity, and service. She became a seamstress and completed her interior decorating and custom drapery-making certification. She later received a diploma as a Master Travel, reflecting her love of exploration and seeing the world. In time, she also became a bus driver, a role she held with pride and dedication for over 15 years. Norma embraced life with joy. She traveled the world with her husband and found happiness in the simple pleasures-sewing, boating, fishing, and especially cooking fish for family and friends. She also loved thoughtful gestures and was always touched by kindness-especially receiving flowers and cards. Above all, she treasured time spent with those she loved. She was known for her steady faith, her quiet strength, and her unfailing love-always showing up with unselfish support for her family and care for others. Norma leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Adolphus Garmon Jr. and Garland Garmon; her daughters, Sandra (Wayne) Garmon Haase and Sharon Darno; her grandchildren, Anna Marie, Kristina Garmon, Camara Garmon, Stephanie Garmon, and Johanna Garmon; and her great-grandchildren, Calvin Garmon, Eric Jr. Skillings, and Cameron Garmon. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. "God has been merciful to me. I am saved by the Blood of Jesus, and I've gone home to live with my Lord. Don't weep over me." With gratitude for her life and faith, we rejoice that Norma is now at peace-resting in the presence of her Lord and Savior. In keeping with Norma's wishes, she will be laid to rest beside her late husband, MSgt. Adolphus Garmon, Sr., at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. The family of Norma Jean Garmon acknowledges with deep appreciation your outpouring of love, your prayers, phone calls, visits, floral arrangements, and other expressions of sympathy. We thank you so much and pray that God will bless you richly. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
