June 2, 1945— March 14, 2026
Abingdon, VA
Norma Bott Kestner, a devoted mother, cherished homemaker, and beloved member of the Abingdon community, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, in Bristol, Virginia. Born on June 2, 1945, in Abingdon, VA, to the late Dave Berry Bott and Dorothy Flanagan Bott. Norma lived a life marked by love, dedication, and a deep connection to family and simple joys.
Norma graduated from John S. Battle High School in 1963, a milestone that paved the way for a lifetime devoted to raising her children and nurturing her home. She had an unparalleled talent in the kitchen, especially revered for her mashed potatoes, which remain legendary among family and friends. Her home was always filled with the warmth of her cooking and the care she took in maintaining her household.
Beyond her role as a mother and homemaker, Norma found immense joy tending to her flower beds and spending time outdoors, where she felt most at peace. Her love for nature was matched by her passion for her "stories" — notably The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives, favorites that brought her daily comfort and joy. She also cherished moments with her cousins, with whom she shared the lively pastime of square dancing, illustrating her vibrant spirit and love of community.
In addition to her parents Norma was preceded in death by her loving husband Charles Kestner; and two sisters, Sandra Byington and Diane Wilson.
Norma is survived by her son, Mark Kestner and his wife, Sheri; and her daughter, Kim Denton and her husband, Gregg. Her family extends to five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, each of whom was a source of immense pride and happiness for her.
A private graveside service will be held at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Les Ketron officiating.
