Norma Angelique Blackmoon

Norma Angelique BlackMoon, 88, of Red Scaffold, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on January 23, 1938, Norma lived a life of resilience shaped by her strong Lakota values. Her kindness, humor, compassion, and generosity touched everyone around her. Those who knew her will remember her quiet strength and the warmth she shared so freely.

In her earlier years, Norma lived in Eagle Butte, where she worked as a teacher at Head Start and held various other jobs that she took great pride in. She believed deeply in the importance of education and continued growth, which led her to attend Black Hills State University, where she earned her degree in Social Services. Later, after moving to Oregon, she worked as a Homeliving Assistant at Chemawa Indian School for more than 25 years before retiring. With patience, care, and steady presence, she touched countless lives of students and coworkers alike.

Norma had a gentle spirit and a gift for making others feel comfortable and welcome. She loved to write, draw, and create beautiful beadwork. She cherished day trips to the Oregon coast with her family, the excitement of thrift shopping, and above all, the time spent with those she loved most. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her some of life’s greatest joys, and she carried deep love and pride for each of them.

She is survived by her daughters Teri Lynn (Leah and Natasha), Dixie (Brad, Jeslyn, Brayden, and Brycen), Lanell (McKayla, McKenzie, and Micah), and Jonni (JoRae, LaRissa, Mark, Maegan, Linus, Yamni, and Gina), who will forever cherish the memories they shared with her and the love she gave so freely.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert Percy BlackMoon and Lena Magdalene BlackMoon, as well as her siblings Thomas, Leah, Eddie, Gabe, Norvan, and David.
