State College, PA
Norah Gorman Dickie passed away on March 12, 2026, at the age of 90 in State College, Pennsylvania. She will be remembered for her kindness, practical nature, keen sense of humor, and deep love of animals.
Born in 1935 in the small town of Broxburn, just west of Edinburgh, Scotland, Norah was the youngest of twelve siblings and the daughter of John and Rosetta (Rose) Gorman. Her father worked as a shale miner and her mother as a housewife. After attending business school in Edinburgh, she immigrated to the United States in 1962 with her husband, George. Her education led to many years of administrative and volunteer work that she greatly enjoyed.
Norah was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 2021. She is survived by her three sons, George Iain, Andrew, and Nigel, and by her grandson, Graham, through Nigel.
An avid reader, Norah particularly loved mystery novels, poetry, and historical fiction and nonfiction. She was a devoted enthusiast of Agatha Christie, having read all of her works. She took great pleasure in exploring and researching her Irish heritage, as both of her parents were Irish. She enjoyed a wide variety of music, with a special passion for Irish and Celtic traditions. Norah cherished animals and nature, especially wild birds, and she shared her home with several beloved pet cats over the years. She was also a talented baker, known for her traditional Scottish shortbread. She loved to travel and returned to Scotland many times to visit friends and family. After settling in State College for more than 35 years, where her husband served as a professor at Penn State University, she was able to explore further, with Italy becoming one of her favorite destinations.
