Nolan R. Reed, 25, of Columbus, and formerly of New Philadelphia, passed away at his home on Friday, March 13, 2026.

Born in Dover on May 17, 2000, he was the son of Michael and Rhonda (Metzger) Reed.

Nolan was a 2018 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, where he was a member of the band. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from The Ohio State University in 2020.

Nolan’s career was defined by a commitment to helping others. Following graduation, he moved to Boston to work at McLean Hospital as a mental health specialist. There, he treated individuals with psychotic disorders and contributed to the epigenetics lab, focusing on advancing treatments for psychotic illness. Most recently, he returned to Ohio and was employed as a patient care assistant at OSU Hospitals in Columbus.

Outside of his professional life, Nolan was an active individual who found balance in both physical and creative pursuits. He was a member of Sharon Moravian Church and loved running, hiking, and indoor rock climbing. When not outdoors or at the gym, he could often be found reading or playing the piano.

He is survived by his parents; his brother, Calvin Reed; his sister, Clara Reed; an uncle, Roger (Amy) Metzger; an aunt, Marsha (Tricia Self) Reed; and his cousin, Kayla Metzger.

Nolan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Raymond and Marie Reed and Raymond and Thelma Metzger, as well as his uncle, Mark Reed.

A service celebrating Nolan’s life will be held on Thursday, March 19th starting at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor John Wallace officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park. The family will be greeting friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
