November 21, 1946— March 4, 2026
LaGrange, GA
Nina Harriet Dulin-Mallory was born in Oxford, Mississippi on November 21, 1946 to Wilbur Nelson Dulin and Frances Murray Markette Dulin. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother W. N. Dulin Jr. She is survived by her children, Nina Markette Baker (James) of LaGrange, Aruther Eugene (Bo) Mallory (Allison) of Pike Road, Alabama, and US Navy CAPT. Judson Dulin Mallory (Leslie Ann) of Mayport, Florida, and six grandchildren, Jack Baker, Nina Frances Baker, Ava Mallory, Ruby Mallory, Judson Andrew Mallory, and Robert Mallory. She is also survived by her sister, Pamela Dulin Rogers of Huntersville, North Carolina, her brother, Paul Dulin of Easley, South Carolina, eight nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews.
A gifted scholar and educator, Nina graduated from Clemson University in 1967, where she was named Miss Clemson University in 1965 and received the Trustees’ Medal. She went on to earn a master’s degree at LaGrange College and a Ph.D. in Medieval Literature from Auburn University. She received a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship for postdoctoral study at Yale University and at Harvard University’s Center for Hellenic Studies. For thirty-seven years she taught at LaGrange College, work she deeply cherished. Upon her retirement the faculty named her Professor Emerita. She served as Chair of the English Department, Faculty Representative to the Board of Trustees, and President of the Faculty Assembly, and she received both of the College’s distinguished teaching awards.
Beyond the classroom, Nina played a formative role in academic integrity. In 1999 she became the first advisor to the Honor Council at LaGrange College and guided the creation of its Honor Code. She later served as President of the Executive Board of the International Center for Academic Integrity at Duke University. She also gave generously of her time and leadership to her community, serving as president of the Junior Service League, the Junior Woman’s Club, the Mutual Concert Association, and the LaGrange Ballet Theater, and as a member of the Troup County Library Board and the Spectator Book Club.
A devoted member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in LaGrange for more than fifty years, Nina taught Sunday School, served in the kindergarten, and participated in the Altar Guild, Flower Guild, Vestry, and as a lay reader. She wrote Christmas plays, repaired vestments, and baked countless cheese straws, yet nothing meant more to her than the love and support she received from her church family. Above all, her greatest joy was her own family, whose deep devotion to one another and commitment to making the world better reflected the values she lived by.
