Nigel Stephenson Charles

Nigel Stephenson Charles of Castries, St. Lucia, passed away on March 11, 2026. Known affectionately as Smokey, he brought joy and warmth to everyone he met through his quick wit and unfailing positive outlook. His deep love for soccer led him to coach recreational teams for many years in Connecticut while continuing to play in over-40 leagues. A natural problem-solver, Nigel enjoyed a long career as an electronic technician with AT&T, where he formed many lasting friendships.

Above all, Nigel was a devoted husband of 46 years, a loving father, and a loyal friend who never met a stranger. He cherished time with his family and extended community, always ready with a joke to bring smiles and laughter to those around him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doreen Charles and Stanley Oliver Charles.

He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Charles; his children, Nydie and Darren Charles and their families; his granddaughter, Liliana Charles; and his siblings and their families, Colly Charles, Linda Charles, Liz Charles, Andre Charles, Eric Charles, Rosslyn Quintyne, Heather Hennecart, Solange Weeks, Deborah Charles, and Thea Charles. He also leaves behind many dear friends, including the Gutierrez family, Savita and Tyrone, and countless others whose lives he touched.
