Fergus Falls, MN
Nichole Auldridge of Fergus Falls, age 55, passed away on March 11, 2026, at Browns Valley Health Center following a ten-year battle with end-stage non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Born in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, she spent most of her life in New Braunfels, Texas, where she was taken in and adopted as a teenager by her parents, Brenda and Robert Helmke. Nichole faced many challenges throughout her life, including surviving domestic abuse in childhood and adulthood, and battling ovarian and breast cancer before becoming ill in 2015. She met each obstacle with remarkable strength, resilience, and a stubborn spirit that inspired those around her.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Nichole filled the lives of her children and grandchildren with cherished memories of road trips and unforgettable experiences. In her final days, her children came together to support one another while saying their goodbyes and holding her hand. Her close friend, sister-like neighbor Kristi Lehn offered comfort, guidance, and love. Pastor Pat Schubert prayed for her as she took her last breath. True to her character, Nichole had often told her daughter to “get home to her babies and make sure they are taken care of.” Her daughters and son were able to accompany her, in person or in spirit, on one last road trip, with each vehicle playing music she loved, strengthening the family’s bond and traditions.
Nichole is survived by her brothers Allen Auldridge and Roy Auldridge Jr.; her mother Brenda Helmke and sister Ellen Helmke, who will help care for her children and grandchildren; her stepdaughter-in-law; her children Virginia Gonzales, Chasity Whitlock (38) and Anthony Whitlock, Michael Gonzales (36) and Mary Gonzales, and Courtney Sifuentes (35) and Alex Sifuentes; and her grandchildren Alexander Davis (19), Jazmine Davis (18), Ezekiel (Lynn), Sam, Mason, Hunter-Jay, Nicholas, Logan, Malachi, Damon, Erin, Gordon, and Graysen, including two she helped raise. She was preceded in death by her father Robert Helmke, sister Tina Auldridge, brother from another mother James Ham, stepson Ruben Gonzales Jr., family friend and mentor Bill Hughes Jr., bonus parents Nanny and Pop Vodron, and beloved pets Kya and Bear.
Kind, generous, and fiercely protective, Nichole had a gift for making others feel accepted and validated. She opened her home to those in need, offering coffee at any hour, hot meals, and a listening ear. Even after moving to Browns Valley Health Center, she continued to support others, forming friendships, helping with small tasks, and being baptized there. She taught two of her grandchildren to speak when doctors believed they never would, and she stood beside her family through every challenge with unwavering love and devotion.
