Newton Mabin Hewes, Jr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on December 9, 1935, and passed away on March 10, 2026. He was preceded in death by his father, Newton Maybin Hewes, Sr., his mother Edna Victoria Hewes (Fort), his son Newton Maybin Hewes III, his first wife Jacqueline Hewes (Pope), and his niece Carrie Sherman.
He is survived by his devoted sister, Edna Maybin Sherman (née Hewes); his loving wife of 38 years, Mary Elizabeth Hewes (née DeWitt); his children Robin Elaine Hewes Rasmussen (Jon), Terry Gail Hewes Smith (Jim), and Rachael Annette Hewes Warren (Jim); his bonus children Mary Grace White (Ben), Ashley Bishop (Amanda), Susan Polk (Doug), and David Crowder; and a large and loving family of grandchildren, bonus grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, his niece Amy Sherman-Palladino (Daniel), and many other nieces, nephews, and friends.
An Eagle Scout, Newton graduated as salutatorian from Long Beach High School in Long Beach, Mississippi. He attended Mississippi State College and earned a Bachelor of Science from Memphis State University. He began his career at IBM in 1957 before founding Hewes Enterprises, which he owned and operated for more than 50 years, retiring at the age of 89. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, independence, and an unfailing love for his family that will remain a blessing to all who knew him.
